St. Lawrence University Johnson Hall of Science

Canton, New York
Owner: St. Lawrence University
Building Size: 130,000 sq. ft.

LEED Rating: Gold 2008

The project includes research and teaching laboratories, conference rooms, offices and informal student spaces. The building is projected to save about 30% regulated energy cost vs. ASHRAE 90.1-1999. A system of louvers allows in daylight while protecting from glare. Viridian professionals analyzed the energy use and daylighting strategies for the building, in support of Croxton Collaborative Architects and Kling Stubbins. NYSERDA co-funded the work. The project was performed when Viridian professionals were the Energy/Green/Commissioning group of another company. This group formed Viridian's nucleus in 2006.
