New York City
Owner: Albanese Development
Building Size: 275,973 sq.ft.

LEED Rating: Platinum 2008

The Verdesian is the first residential high-rise building in the United States to earn a LEED Platinum rating. Filtered, conditioned, winter-humidified air is distributed to each room in the apartments. All finishes are low-emitting. Energy efficiency measures include a chiller/heater, a gas-fired microturbine and photovoltaics. Viridian professionals started performing the energy and green/LEED analyses while they were the Energy/Green/Commissioning group of another company. This group formed ViridianŐs nucleus in 2006. The design team included Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects for design, SLCE for AOR, and Flack + Kurtz MEP. The work was co-funded by the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority. Other green achievements: Battery Park City Sustainable Guidelines compliance, New York State Green Building Tax Credit.
